Should I contact my insurer after a non-fault accident?

By the G4 Claims team · Updated 11 October 2026

Yes. Most motor policies require you to tell your insurer about any accident, even if it was not your fault and you are not claiming on your own policy. You can say you are notifying them “for information only”. A non-fault claim for repairs and a replacement vehicle can then be pursued against the at-fault driver’s insurer.

Why you should still tell your insurer

Telling your insurer is normally a condition of your policy. If you do not, they may be able to refuse future claims or cancel cover. Check your policy wording.

What “for information only” means

It tells your insurer about the accident without asking them to handle a claim on your policy. Your insurer may still record the incident.

Where G4 Claims fits in

We can help manage a non-fault claim against the other driver’s insurer – arranging repairs and, where you are eligible, a comparable replacement vehicle – and keep you updated by phone or WhatsApp.
