Hit while parked: what to do next

By the G4 Claims team · Updated 11 October 2026

If your car is hit while parked, look for a note from the other driver, photograph the damage and the scene, and check for witnesses or CCTV and dashcam footage. If the driver left no details, report it to Police Scotland on 101 within 24 hours. If the other driver can be traced, it is usually a non-fault claim.

Gather evidence

  • Photos of the damage and the position of your car
  • Any note left on your windscreen
  • Nearby CCTV (shops, car parks) – ask quickly, footage is often deleted
  • Witness names and numbers
